Can I Super Revive this Super Mario 3 from WhatNot?

Recently I got my eBay and WhatNot games in the mail, but was not expecting the copy of Super Mario 3 to be in the condition it was.

I know it was used, but oh man! Straight out the packing it wouldn’t turn on and when we opened it up to inspect, there was this weird paint-like gunk on the board and inside casing. Needless to say, we had our work cut out for us! Check out how we did.

Thank you for watching. See y’all in the next one, Lord willin’!

  1. I’m wondering if the “unidentified” matter is ball point ink from a pen that exploded in whatever bag held this game— presumably for a kid. It would make sense in terms of fingerprint smudges as you reach into the bag to get your game, only to find black stuff everywhere, incl on the inside part of the cartridge. It would then “settle”, and as it lay uncleaned for however long it was left there, it would then have dust, etc that would embed inside the cartridge.
Had it been paint, it would have needed something else to clean it — and you have to consider what a regular kid would have access to that could go wrong.
And from the state of the “pins”, there was NO regular care/ cleaning happening in that space. 🙁

QUESTION: If you couldn’t clean it/ get it working, what would happen? Can you speak to the issue of risks/ rewards in the business?
Can you talk about where/ how to find reputable sellers? What you look for in a game to help you decide if it’s worth the risk?

    TY!
